How does the simple trace of human presence become a lasting mark deep enough to become geological memory?
Whether intentional or accidental, human activity has ushered in the Anthropocene era where our presence is literally inscribed in the planet’s geological strata. This series of abstract paintings on paper explores this unsettling yet inspiring transformation, tracing a visual timeline of human impact and the profound, often invisible mutations of our environment.
The works begin with primal gestures evocative of the cave fresco, it gradually evolves toward layers of plastics and synthetic materials. Each experimentation is initially created using natural pigments, but as the series progresses, these organic materials become increasingly contaminated and overlaid with industrial substances. As natural matter transforms, the paintings themselves become metaphors for our world’s inevitable change. This work is not only about loss, it is about memory, sedimentation, and the quiet violence of progress. It asks us to consider what kind of geological record we are creating, and what traces of ourselves we choose to leave behind.
